Spelling and Phonics are So Important!
I love teaching spelling! Crazy, I know, but learning the history of words and the sounds of letters, I am hooked! While this page is “under construction”, subscribe and I will notify you when resources are posted. In the meantime, When it comes to spelling and phonics, I do have some blog posts available (such as this one), and I’m currently working on resources to upload on my TPT store.
Do you know the single letter phonogram sounds? These are the foundation to teaching phonics and spelling! When I learned these, I honestly hadn’t heard of a few of them, but they make sense. And spelling does makes sense when you know the single letter and multiple letter phonemes. However, it does take some work, and I can help you. Grab yourself some alphabet letter cards and follow along with the video posted below.
Did you know all of them? Which ones were you surprised by? Quite often, the 3rd sounds are not taught. Why not? What do you think of the letter “y” with all its sounds? Crazy, right? My students love it when they get to the letter “y”, because I will react with “WHAT? That many?”
I do have a video on the double letter sounds but honestly, I need to re-work it. I added the “more than double letter sounds” so it is too much for the students to follow along. It is on my to-do list for the summer. I’m sure you understand about to-do lists.
