As we are moving into the holiday season, now is a great time to look at tools to grow or start your TPT Business. Why? Christmas or Birthday Wish Lists!!!
If you are new to TPT, do not jump in and buy all the stuff. I wrote a blog post on the Costs of Selling on TPT. I re-read it , updated it and some links and it’s worth checking out. This post is going to cover some of the same and then we’ll talk about the tools to grow your TPT business. Let’s get started!
Tools to Start
There is not much that you need to get started on TPT. You probably have everything already!
- Computer/laptop
- Software program to create resources
- Camera/phone
- Flattening tool/Flatpack/Canva
Really – that’s it! Yes, you may want to buy clipart, fonts, etc to dress up your products, but for your first couple, you can create without them.
Most of us have a computer or laptop (do not use your school’s property). This is just personal choice. Do not go out and buy a new one. Use what you have. I have a old Mac and it works fine.
Software is one that could potentially cost you money (remember, it’s an investment into your business and you can write it off your taxes). If you choose to use Google Drive to create, then it is free. If you want to use PowerPoint, then you are required to purchase a business license (according to Microsoft’s Terms of Use). Mac also has Keynote (for free). Again, this is personal opinion. I made a video a while back on Google vs PowerPoint.
After your product is finished, print it out and take photos of it “in action”. Taking photos will give potential buyers a good look into what you are offering. I also take video, as an optional preview. Flattening and securing your products is pretty important.
After this is done, all you need to do is upload!
Tools to Grow
Once you have a bunch of products in your store, growing on TPT requires attention to:
- Your data
- Marketing
- Making strategic products
Your Data
Teachers Pay Teachers provides a dashboard for you to view your earnings, views, conversions, traffic, etc. This is a great tool to help you take the next steps after uploading your product. TPT also has pages to view individual product statistics.

Marketing Tools to Grow Your Business
Depending on your own interests, marketing can be done through:
- social media: posts, reels, videos, shorts
- growing and conversing with your email list
- ads on TPT, social media
Or, should you choose to forego social media, create trending products and make sure your existing products are fully optimized. For tips on trending products, and researching keywords for TPT resources, you can check out It’s All Primary Youtube channel. By creating products that are trending (not trendy), you should see more views to your TPT store.
An upcoming blog post will talk about trendy vs trending products.
Until then,
Happy Selling!
